Technical engineering services for the modernization of a small hydro power plant in Switzerland

Description of project:
Mühlau is a small hydroelectric power plant in northeastern Switzerland, constructed more than 100 years ago. It features the following elements: Weir with sluice gates; intake structure; 200 m open headrace channel; powerhouse with 0.35 MW maximum output, gross head: 3.10 - 5.5 m; average yearly output: 2 Mio. kWh. When applying for a licence renewal, the private owner decided to rehabilitate, modernize and upgrade the plant.
ÅF's services:
- Feasibility study and basic design for three alternatives, with new turbine and generator and new powerhouse;
- Renovation of the existing weir and intake structure;
- Design of a fish ladder (concrete channel with basin);
- Economical appraisal and cost calculations;
- Project management;
- Detail design;
- Site supervision.
