Happy Easter - and safe travel!
ÅF helps to bring you safely to your Easter celebration by supporting our clients in developing car safety functions.
The Easter weekend is just around the corner which means that many of us will take the car to meet our family or friends for celebration. This results in one of the most traffic intense weekends of the year, leading to increased risk for accidents and roadblocks.
Luckily, most vehicles today are equipped with profound safety functions, which is one of ÅF’s expertise areas; At ÅF we work with both active safety, meaning to reduce risk for accidents and mitigate the outcome of an incident, and passive safety, meaning to provide protection in the event of a crash.
Typical active safety functions, just to mention a few, managed by ÅF are Automatic Emergency Braking, Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Pedestrian Protection System.
“In one of our recent projects, ÅF took responsibility for a complete Active Safety team for a Chinese OEM, and held roles as System Lead, Function Owner, validation roles and more. The project ranged all the way from initiation of vehicle project until start of production”, says Nicklas Karlsson, Section Manager Electrical Systems.
In passive safety, ÅF are involved during the whole vehicle project; from defining the targets to validating the systems and vehicles. ÅF does virtual simulations of complete vehicle crashes, based on CAD data, and iterations together with the design engineers, in order to make the vehicle structure behave as wanted in different crash situations.
“We run inhouse projects where we support clients with complete vehicle simulation on our own cluster. This way we can support clients globally, but still work from our home offices in Sweden. Our clients can be both OEM’s and their suppliers, in China, US, Sweden or elsewhere in the world”, says Annika Aleryd, Section Manager CAE & Safety.
