The client has a high level of automation in the production plant. Business operations are characterised by the need to constantly improve efficiency and flexibility. The actual manufacturing process was well equipped with system support, but as far as the palletisation plant was concerned (where the products are packed in their secondary packaging), there was no direct link between the business support system and the automated solutions. The client felt that it was not possible to meet the demands made here, and that the company did not have the tools it needed to steer and control this aspect of its operations.
ÅF developed an integration solution with a production database. In addition to integrating the various system components (Movex business system, Siemens S7 control system, SICK and DataLogic barcode scanners, MecTec labeller) the solution also comprised a platform for a web-based GUI where operators can monitor and control the plant.
This improved efficiency/availability in the production plant, and led to greater flexibility that facilitates the acceptance of new business and enables adaptations to changes to be made more quickly. Improved statistics means better information on which to base decision-making and also increased traceability.
The system has been developed using open-source products (RedHat Linux, Oracle MySQL, Java SE, PHP).
This new solution is business critical. ÅF provides emergency response services 24/7 all year round.
