Lai Chau HPP

Alternate design proposal using RCC technology for 1,200 MW HPP project in Vietnam

Description of project:

The 1,200 MW Lai Chau project in Vietnam further exploits the hydro power potential of the Upper Da River, approx. 150 km upstream of the Son La HPP. The Lai Chau HPP comprises a 132 m high RCC gravity dam (volume 2.5 Mio. m³) with the spillway located on the dam in the river section, an intake, penstocks and a powerhouse at the dam toe on the orographic left bank. The powerhouse hosts three Francis units.

ÅF's services:

Technical design stage (selectively): proposal of alternative project layout in conformity with use of RCC technology; assessing foundation geological conditions; taking part in selection of quarries for the production of RCC aggregates; establishing main specifications for RCC construction incl. methodologies & equipment; selecting RCC mixture proportions; carrying out stability, structural and thermal analyses.
