Complete project planning and implementation management for the modernization of a run-of-river scheme in Switzerland
Description of project:
The project involves the complete modernization and upgrading of a run-of-river plant built in 1917, which includes a concrete diversion weir on the Aare River, a 5 km long power canal, a powerhouse equipped with seven Francis and one Kaplan unit, and a 1.5 km long tailrace canal. The works included replacement of the seven existing 5 MW Francis units with four 10.7 MW Caplan units; replacement of the generator and rehabilitation of the existing 8.5 MW Caplan machine; complete reconstruction of the powerhouse building; and modifications to the existing power canal to accommodate the increased diverted flow. The complete modernization and upgrade increased the installed capacity of the plant from 43 to 51.3 MW.
Pre-feasibility and feasibility studies; cost estimate and economic analyses; environmental impact assessment studies; development of the final design, preparation of technical specifications and bidding documents; assistance to the bidding process, bids evaluation and contracts negotiations; detailed design of the civil works; revision and approval of the detailed electromechanical engineering developed by the manufacturers; shop inspections; supervision of the civil construction and of the equipment erection; overall project co-ordination, cost and schedule control; final tests and commissioning.
