Devoll HPP
Construction design for two new hydropower plants in Albania

Description of project:
AF-Consult Switzerland was contracted as Owner's Designer for two new hydro power plants in the Devoll Hydropower Project. The project is situated in the southeastern region of Albania on the river Devoll, approximately 100 km south of the capital city Tirana, and comprises two hydro power schemes, the upper Moglicë HPP and the lower Banja HPP. The total installed capacity is 240 MW with an average annual energy production of 700 GWh.
The main features of the construction design for both hydropower plants included two powerhouse structures (surface and underground); an 80 m high rockfill dam with an impervious clay core and a 150 m high rockfill dam with an asphaltic central core; gated overflow spillways; intake structures; headrace tunnels and tailrace channels.
ÅF's services:
We were awarded the contract for the Owner's Designer services and provided the construction design for the HPP structures. The design of the powerhouse cavern, transformer cavern, GIS building and other structures were executed in BIM 3D.
