West Link simplifies travel

The infrastructure project in Gothenburg, Sweden, is an 8-km long railway, of which 6 km runs in a tunnel under central Gothenburg, that will provide cross-city commuter rail services. Thanks to three new stations, transit users will be able to travel more conveniently, faster and with fewer transfers. The double track railway and several new stations will make it possible to increase train frequency and shorten travel times.

ÅF was contracted by the Swedish Transport Administration to handle detailed engineering and preparation of tender enquiry documents for the entire project. The unique aspect is that this is the first time in Sweden that a consulting engineering company has taken on an assignment of this size at a fixed price. For the client, this is a way to get a clear picture of the project’s price tag.

Previously, ÅF has produced railway plans and schematic design for the Korsvägen railway station sub-project in the West Link project.
