Dredging operations in Bay of Bothnia for increased outdoor activities

The archipelago in the Bay of Bothnia – the archipelago of the light nights – is much-appreciated by boating enthusiasts, but it is extremely shallow in most areas.

In order to increase accessibility to the archipelago, the five most northerly coastal municipalities initiated a joint project in which ÅF was given the task of drawing up complete permit documents for dredging in eight different areas. This involved, among other things, location studies, EIAs, declarations of legality, availability issues, dumping dispensations, dispensations from protected coastal areas, for works in Natura 2000 areas and in the national park as well as consultation meetings, finally resulting in complete permit applications and our involvement in negotiations at the Swedish Land and Environment Court.
