One of the foremost research centres in the world is being built in Lund in southern Sweden. European Spallation Source, or ESS, is a high tech super microscope and a so-called neutron source, built to generate scientific insights and innovations.

ÅF were tasked with designing the technical installations of the building in terms of function, security and sustainability. The project involves very large investments, and ÅF cost management experts were able contribute within this field.

In the creation of the large accelerator, ÅF is in charge of project management and installation design for electricity, HVAC, control and monitoring. When ESS is fully operational in 2025 some 3000 scientists from around the world are expected to flock to Lund to partake of the possibilities for new discoveries.

ESS will generate up to 100 times more neutrons that any existing similar facilities, making ground breaking discoveries possible within many fields.
