Garpenberg 2,5MT - expansion of Sweden's oldest mine to make it one of the most cost effective and modern mines.

In Sweden´s oldest mine, Garpenberg outside Hedemora, Boliden set their goal some years back to almost double it´s production. The expansion will increase the production from 1,4 to 2,5 million tonnes in 2015 and make Garpenberg one of the worlds most cost effective and modern mines. Today, Garpenberg mine produces complex ores containing zinc, lead, silver, copper, and gold. This expansion means that production lifetime will last to 2030, at least.

Over a time period, from 2011 to 2014, the main project was to design, build and commission new equipment and facility’s to enable the expansion of the mining operations. This enabled Boliden to produce ore more cost efficiently and enhance their profitability.
