Next stop Turkey – ÅF Lighting to participate in master planning of Istanbul

ÅF Lighting will soon send a delegation to Turkey to initiate a new project concerning street lighting planning in Istanbul. The project is not only great in scope but also has huge potential.

ÅF in Turkey recently won a large contract regarding master planning consultancy with the Turkish distribution company BOGAZICI EDCo, which are in charge of maintenance and development of the energy distribution network in Istanbul (the European side) with a reach of 8 million people. The contract concerns master planning studies for approximately 10 years ahead.

Best practice in lighting master planning

As sub contractors on the winning team ÅF Lighting will provide BOGAZICI EDCo with street lighting planning consultancy. This involves defining “best practice” for the planning of future street lighting solutions (installation, operation and maintenance) focusing on the reduction of costs. In addition the assignment includes a thorough introduction to state of the arts regarding LED technology and control systems for lighting.

Further to this, development of lighting design for historical and urban environments in the city is also a potential assignment since Istanbul is renowned for its spectacular cultural buildings and places.

New territory for ÅF Lighting

The project opens new territory for ÅF Lighting regarding street lighting renovations outside of Scandinavia, where the need for well planned and holistic refurbishments is a demand in growth due to the technological development of LED and the need to increase energy savings. In recent years ÅF Lighting has been forerunners in relation to new approaches to street lighting renewals in Scandinavia, and the knowledge gained from these projects will be of great benefit for future projects of this kind.
