Unique Multipurpose Ship
The ship series named Visby-class corvette comprises five extremely versatile ships designed for a complex environment and flexible use.
The Visby-class corvettes uses stealth technology for non-detection on radar or other sensors. It is a unique multipurpose ship with the ability to perform surface to surface combat, surface to air combat, underwater warfare and mine countermeasures. During the year 2002 the Swedish Defence Administration started the first real tests. The fifth corvette in the series was delivered in 2015 and the project was officially closed on September 15, 2015.
During the years, ÅF has been a part of all subprojects; hull (FAS), underwater systems (Hydra), combat systems (CETRIS, navigation system, communication system, electronic support measures and surveillance radar), integrated logistic support (ILS) and surface to surface missile, gun, mines and torpedoes (Weaponry). Consultants from ÅF have presented great knowledge in system safety, test and evaluation, integrated logistic support (ILS) and other specific areas such as antenna conflict measurement and sonar technology.
More than delivering sought competence, many of the ÅF consultants in the Visby-class project have a military background and thereby possess a greater knowledge of the environment in which the end product should perform in.
