The AF Group signs framework agreement with Swedia Networks

The ÅF Group has signed a framework agreement concerning UMTS/GSM-related assignments in Sweden and Norway with Swedia Networks. The contract includes a broad spectrum of consultancy services ranging from feasibility studies and preparatory investigations to project management and site supervision within fields such as optical fibre technology, transmission, radio links, telephone exchanges, field project planning, and radio and cellular planning. The ÅF Group will also be required to assume responsibility for total commitments within areas such as site acquisition, site engineering and telecom installation.

The development of the UMTS/GSM network in Sweden and Norway is expected to involve around 50,000 radio base stations representing an investment of approximately SEK 40 billion over three years. For the ÅF Group, the commitment has the potential to generate assignments of up to SEK 300 million per year over the period. The ÅF Group has 2,300 consultants in Europe, 750 of them working with IT. During 1999 the ÅF Group had a turnover of SEK 1.7 billion.

Swedia Network is one of the most active European telecom contractors as regards the design, installation and service of infrastructure for electronic communication. Swedia Network has more than 2,300 employees in an organisation which covers the whole of Sweden and is also represented in several other countries. The company’s turnover in 1999 was SEK 4 billion.
