ÅF wins SEK 200 million assignment for Banverket

ÅF has secured a large-scale order from Banverket, the authority responsible for rail transport in Sweden, in conjunction with the Stockholm City Line rail link.

The consulting contract consists of three extensive technical assignments: Tomteboda freight yards, the double-track tunnel and new commuter stations, and a risk and safety management assignment.

ÅF's involvement with regard to the Tomteboda project and the twin-track tunnel relates to the project engineering of all aspects of the technical rail installations, including ground survey work, track, electrics, signalling and telecommunications, SCADA and channelling as well as technical support up to the time when the facilities are taken into use.

The value of the order for ÅF's part is estimated to total approximately SEK 200 million (approx. 22 million euros) up until 2016.

The City Link is a two-track rail link with two new stations in a tunnel extending for some 6 kilometres between the commuter rail stations of Stockholms Södra south of the city centre and Tomteboda to the north. The City Link will double rail capacity in and out of Stockholm and help improve punctuality for trains both within the city and throughout the Mälaren Valley. At the same time, the new tunnel will also bring benefits to trains travelling to and from the rest of the country.
