The ÅF Group has been assigned by the Swedish Energy Agency to carry out two investigations aimed at providing a broad picture and a comprehensive analysis of the causes and consequences of the electricity failures which recently blacked out parts of Sweden and other countries. The ÅF Group's findings will be presented to the Swedish Energy Agency before the end of the year.
The first assignment will investigate the causes and consequences of the major electrical power failure that affected eight states in the USA and one Canadian province on August 14, 2003. This assignment will also determine what lessons Sweden and the Swedish power companies can learn from the event.
The second assignment is to describe the impact that the September 28 power blackout in southern Sweden had on the country's economy. The project will also attempt to investigate what other effects the blackout had on the people it affected, apart from the purely financial consequences.
The ÅF Group's Energy & Environment Division has 350 employees in Sweden and abroad.
