In 2006 ÅF was commissioned to modernise the IT system at an automated steel coil warehouse for the China Steel Corporation in Taiwan. Having enjoyed a good relationship with China Steel since supplying a similar high-quality control and information system in 1992, ÅF was again selected to supply a new system with modern machinery. The system needs to handle a large database of steel and stock data, plan and optimise transport, control and monitor coils and transport equipment, and handle the exchange of information between the business and production systems. Extensive reporting functionality is also required. The contract, qhich entails the exciting meeting of two different cultures, will require and engineering input of almost 6,000 hours and a highly innovative approach.
