"Forum Karolinska" is the name of the winning entry in the architectural design competition for a new university hospital on the site of the current Karolinska Hospital in Solna, northern Stockholm. ÅF is responsible for the technical installations and energy solutions in the winning proposal. In close collaboration with White Arkitekter and Ramböll on the construction side, ÅF has succeeded in creating a proposal that fuses together the functional, ethical, aesthetic and technical aspects of the project with a holistic perspective, an innovative approach and the potential for development in a solution that provides the best overall economy.
The jury was unanimous in its choice of winner.
"I'm absolutely delighted!" says Göran Dalryd, who heads the project at ÅF Infrastructure AB. "The project group can look forward to a challenging time in the months ahead. But, more importantly, this marks a major step forward for functional thinking and for ÅF as installation consultants."
Work has already begun on the next stage of the project - to produce a complete dossier of documentation. This is an extensive undertaking that has to be completed by the end of 2007. That is when the formal decision will be taken with regard to the forthcoming project engineering work. Some 15 consultants from ÅF will be working with the project documentation in the period up until December 2007. The project as a whole represents an investment of approximately SEK 8 billion (EUR 860 million). A project office will be established at White Arkitekter's premises to shorten communication paths within the group and rationalise day-to-day work.
The project group behind the winning proposal included:
Architects: White Arkitekter AB
Installations consultants: ÅF, AB Ångpanneföreningen
