SCA Packaging Aschaffenburg gets fitter for the future
SCA Packaging's Aschaffenburg containerboard machine near Frankfurt in Germany will be rebuilt in 2005 to be able to produce more light-weight grammages in line with a key trend in corrugated packaging industry.
With this investment, SCA Packaging Aschaffenburg's paper machine will be able to produce lighter grades of containerboard paper used for the production of corrugated board. Planned in September/October 2005, the mill's paper machine will be rebuilt with the latest technology including the former section, press section and metering size press. This will enable SCA Pckaging Aschaffenburg to keep the strenght of the paper despite reducing the basis weight.
The use of light-weight grades is a clear trend in the corrugated packaging market for new optimised board compositions. This trend has the overall objective of optimising the performance of the final packaging versus a lower quantity of material involved. After identifying this market trend, SCA Packaging started product development based on Europeean market analysis, including customer demand, competitor supply, SCA Packaging expertise and mill's technical capabilities. The result has led to a new lightweight product in terms of paper characteristics, board performance and applications. The SCA Packaging Achaffenburg paper machine has gradually been producing more and more lower-grammage products.
SCA Packaging Aschaffenburg is ideally located in the heart of Europe to serve its key markets in Germany, Eastern Europe, France and Spain. Very environmentally friendly the company will save resources with the project by reducing specific energy and specific water consumption.
