ÅF carries out all types of electrical inspection in every conceivable kind of environment, from schools and churches to large-scale electrical installations in heavy processing industries and complex manufacturing plants.
In all cases it is of paramount importance that all electrical installations are inspected regularly to prevent accidents and fires. While most of our clients are property owners, our services are also used by contractors.
 
EN-authorised inspectors
ÅF has around 50 inspection engineers authorised by the Electrical Committee (EN) of the Swedish Fire Protection Association. These 50 engineers represent approximately one third of the total number of EN-authorised inspectors in Sweden.
 
Each of the inspection engineers is personally authorised by the Swedish Fire Protection Association's Electrical Committee. In addition we also employ a number of inspection engineers authorised by the Swedish Association of Construction Engineers (SBR).
 
Swedish insurance companies require electrical installations to be audited at regular intervals. These audits ensure that installations comply with the requirements of the controlling authorities and meet safety requirements in full. The safety of any electrical installation is affected by age and by constant use. For this reason proper maintenance and regular checks and inspections are essential to minimise the risk of fires and/or personal injury.

 The EX classification system is a method used to analyse and grade the risk of explosion in areas where explosive gases or dust may form.
This provides a basis for deciding which type of equipment to install in the classified area. A cursory examination is rarely sufficient to allocate an explosion zone rating to the different areas of a facility, and in most instances a more detailed study is essential.
Complex risk assessments Training and advice

The need for more complex risk assessments is becoming increasingly common. Reasons for this include rises in the number of electronic components in machinery and the number and quantity of external sources of interference (for example, mobile phones), as well as hard-to-predict fire risks as a result of, for example, harmonic distortion in the power supply.
 
We have the broad-based skills and extensive resources to help clients in these areas.

EU electricity regulations are becoming increasingly far-reaching and complex. ÅF consultants can advise you and check that your plant complies with the new Machinery Directive, the Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive, the Low Voltage Directive, etc.

We also advise on the technical aspects of electrical safety issues and work with development and training, offering courses tailored to client requirements in areas such as electrical safety, electrical directives and self-assessment.
