Title Master Thesis Project: Tyre Library for Vehicle Energy Model

Increased efficiency in road vehicles is a demand in today’s society, in order to reduce the use of natural resources. One important source for losses in vehicles is the tyre rolling resistance (RR) and friction vs. slip (mu-slip). In order to optimize the vehicle efficiency and performance, it is essential to have correct component data as input to simulations. The tyre RR data is often only available at limited and standardized conditions, and the mu-slip data is often missing, so there is a need to estimate the tyre characteristics, based on physical principles and/or empirical relationships.

The objective is to define a component library of tyre RR and mu-slip data for different tyre types, to be used in energy simulations with MATLAB/Simulink in different applications under different conditions.

Through literature studies and information gathering, including study of measured data available at ÅF, summarize the latest knowledge level. Then determine which physical properties that need to be modelled and to which level of detail. Next step is to develop a model that explains the rolling resistance and mu-slip dependence of various parameters. It is desired to use a previous master thesis as a base and develop it further. Finally, utilize the model to produce a tyre library that spans a range of tyre types and conditions, and use it as input to simulations with ÅF’s Energy Model, which is a Simulink model for analysis of vehicle energy consumption and performance.

You have strong analytical capability and use logic and methods to solve problems in an efficient manner.
