Title Master Thesis Project: Virtual and physical objective testing of vehicle steer- and roll characteristics
Vehicle testing, subjective as well as objective, is an important part of verifying vehicle behavior. Objective testing and thorough analysis of test data is essential for understanding the relations between chassis design and vehicle behavior. This understanding, together with a well correlated vehicle dynamics simulation tool, makes it possible to do much of the chassis development and testing in a virtual environment, reducing time, cost and environmental impact during vehicle development.
The main objective is to develop and validate a test- and analysis method for verifying the steer- and roll characteristics of a physical test vehicle given the vehicle- and chassis design parameters. To achieve this, sub-objectives are to perform dynamic- and steady state road tests of an instrumented vehicle, set up the vehicle dynamics simulation tool, correlating the results between these and finding relations between chassis design inputs and vehicle dynamics behaviour outputs.
First step is to define the performance parameters to be tested and correlated with simulations. In the second phase defining test procedures, test tracks and vehicle simulations that need to be performed. Preparation of the test vehicle, planning and performing the tests will then follow. Parallel to this activity, the vehicle handling simulations will take place. Equipment and software to be used are the measurement equipment Racelogic VBOX, the vehicle dynamics simulation tool CarSim as well as MatLab/Excel for data analysis.

Who are you?
Preferably 2 Master students with specialization in Automotive Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Product Development or Controls Engineering. You have strong analytical capability and use logic and methods to solve problems in an efficient manner. You also have a desire to develop technical and personal skills with high levels of motivation and a positive attitude.
