ÅF Group sharpens focus on clients and reorganises senior management team

The ÅF Group is to merge its current six divisions - Installations, Infrastructure, Industry, Systems, Energy & Environment and Pulp & Paper - into three new ones: Infrastructure, Process and Systems. The change will not incur any restructuring costs and will be implemented on 1 January 2005. ÅF-Kontroll AB (with approximately 200 full-time equivalent posts) will remain as an independent subsidiary for accreditation reasons.

The new organisation is the logical continuation of the changes introduced at the beginning of 2003, when the ÅF Group replaced a fragmented structure of subsidiary companies with a divisional organisation that makes better use of the Group's size and breadth, and presents a clearer profile to clients. Now it is time to move on to phase 2 along the path that has been staked out.

The new divisions in a nutshell:

  • Infrastructure (approximately 700 full-time equivalent posts)
  • Consulting services with the main focus on construction, real estate and infrastructure projects.

  • Process (approximately 1,250 full-time equivalent posts)
  • Consulting services with the main focus on the pulp and paper industry, within the energy and environmental sectors, and in industrial automation.

  • Systems (approximately 350 full-time equivalent posts)
  • Consulting services with the main focus on industries such as the telecom sector, for which the ÅF Group develops systems, products and production.

Parallel with these changes the ÅF Group is strengthening its operations outside the Stockholm area by introducing a regional structure with regional managers, all of whom will form part of the Group's senior management team. This will make ÅF a more decentralised company with a sharper focus on clients and co-workers outside the Stockholm region. The regional managers will represent the complete spectrum of ÅF Group services in their respective area.

At the same time, a further new function is being created. A unit for acquisitions and new markets will be set up to ensure that work with takeovers and corporate establishments in new geographical markets will be carried out more systematically and in a more proactive way than has previously been the case.

The ÅF Group's new Senior Management Group will include the following areas of responsibility:

  • President & CEO
  • President & CEO: Jonas Wiström

"The change aims to improve profits by making it easier for clients to access the full spectrum of the ÅF Group's services," says ÅF Group President and CEO Jonas Wiström. "We are retaining what works well in our current organisation, making the main focus of our divisions clearer and sharper, and at the same time making our local presence more apparent for clients and potential co-workers alike. The new structure provides a clearer than ever definition of the ÅF Group's areas of core expertise."
