ÅF Group wins major certification contract from Scanraff
ÅF-Kontroll has, in conjunction with Lloyd's Netherlands, been awarded the contract to carry out all third party inspections of Scanraff's new gas oil refinery in Lysekil, on the west coast of Sweden. The total contract value amounts to more than 1 million euros, slightly more than half of which will be paid to ÅF-Kontroll.
The refinery is the largest petrochemical project to date in Sweden to be designed and supplied to conform to the new EU regulations on pressure vessels. ÅF-Kontroll has been engaged to carry out Notified and Accredited Body services. Work will commence immediately and it is anticipated that it will draw to a close early in 2006.
The contract has been awarded jointly by ABB Lummus Global and Scanraff.
"This is a step towards achieving our vision of becoming the market leader in technical inspections in Scandinavia," says Jörgen Backersgård, Managing Director for ÅF-Kontroll. "ABB Lummus and Scanraff saw the advantages for them in our way of working and the skills that we can offer by pooling our resources."
ÅF-Kontroll, which is accredited for inspections, testing and certification, has approximately 200 employees based in 20 locations throughout Sweden. ÅF-Kontroll is also a so called "notified body" in accordance with the EU directives for pressure equipment, lifts and machinery.
The Scanraff gas oil plant in Lysekil is one of Sweden's largest industrial projects. The investment is an environmental project to meet future requirements for the sulphur content of fuel oil. Scanraff refineries are owned by Preem.
