Commissioning is the phase in which the completed build/project will be put into normal operation. During commissioning all necessary testing is carried out and users of the project are trained in the construction’s functions and systems.
Planning the commissioning from the outset of the project minimises the risk of delays and defects that would lead to increased running costs and non-conformities of functionality and indoor environment.
ÅF Advansia has longstanding experience in planning and managing tests to be conducted during the commissioning phase. Our test management department is skilled in making plans and carrying out testing, as well as inspecting the contractors’ plans and procedures. In this way, functionality defects are identified as early on as possible, eliminating the risk of finding faults during the operating phase.
Training plans have to be coordinated with commissioning plans. We have positive experience of using the commissioning period to involve the client’s operating organisation. This involvement provides extremely good training for those who will be running the construction later.
MOM documentation must be delivered as early on as possible in order to avoid any last-minute spurt of activity at the end of projects. We have systems for planning MOM deliveries from the contractors and consultants, and follow-up systems for checking that plans are adhered to. This is coordinated with the commissioning plans, so that the basis for inspecting the tests and carrying out training is in place.
Proper functionality makes for happy and satisfied users from day one. Properly trained operating staff make for good, correct operation. Taking up occupancy in a well organised fashion ensures that the new-build is swiftly used to good effect. At the same time, during commissioning we will ensure that sustainability targets have been met and are having the desired impact.
