ÅF in Finland to consult Oulun Energia
ÅF will provide the pre-engineering services to Oulun Energia during the procurement phase of a new waste sorting plant to be installed in Oulu.
ÅF was selected because of our strong previous experience in the design of waste sorting plants and in the pre-engineering of material handling projects generally. We have completed similar projects in Southern Finland, but this is the first plant of its type in Northern Finland.
"This is definitely a step forward for us in our activities in ciruclar economy projects", says Sean Walsh, Senior Advisor in Material Handling.
When the new plant is completed it will process most of the waste that is produced by Building and Demolition (B&D) sites and Commercial and Industrial (C&I) clients located in Northern Finland, thereby helping to achieve recycling targets in Northern Finland.
The plant will use the latest available technology to recover plastics, paper and cardboard, wood, and metals, and the amount of recovered material is expected to be approximately 10-20% of the incoming material flow. Fine material recovered in the plant is intended to be re-used in construction projects, thereby reducing the use of new raw materials.
The plant will also produce quality Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) for use in Oulun Energia’s new bio-energy plant in Laanila, as well as fuel for the existing Laanila Waste-to-Energy plant, thereby reducing Oulun Energia’s use of fossil fuels and taking them one step closer to carbon-neutral energy production.
