A non-toxic environment is a fundamental basis for a good quality of life. In order to achieve this, there is a need for increased knowledge on the nature and function of various substances as well as opportunities for reducing the risks of dangerous substances or the phasing out of others. In Europe, the new EU legislation REACH is putting new demans on the management of chemicals.
