ÅF Lighting wins The Danish Road Prize 2011

1. helmikuuta 2012

The former industrial harbor area in Aalborg has since 2004 been undergoing large changes to create a recreational urban space. ÅF Lighting has in this context developed a lighting solution which binds the center of Aalborg to the adjacent fjord with a mix of functional and scenographic light settings. As a result, the former industrial area has become a bustling waterfront boulevard. The functional street lighting in the area is well integrated into the new surroundings and offers good visual comfort without glare and with high-quality color rendering.

The jury behind the election accentuated how the street lighting creates a strong visual identity for the area and how the lighting has made it possible to use the area for a diverse range of recreational activities. The choice of lighting equipment was also mentioned as an important factor, as it in daytime underscores the maritime qualities and the architectural design on the harbor front.

The Danish Road Prize is distributed by the Danish Road Directory each year to put focus on how we arrange and design our roads and their surroundings. The theme of the prize was in 2011 new and energy efficient lighting solutions. On this basis the project in Aalborg was chosen as the winner.

The project at Aalborg Harbor Front also won the Danish Lighting Prize 2011

The project in Aalborg is done in collaboration with COWI and C. F. Møller.
