Energy use in Swedish sports facilities
Energy in buildings should be reduced by 20 percent by 2020 compared to 1995. This target has been set by the Swedish government. The Swedish Energy Agency’s STIL2 project produces national statistics on electrical energy use in non-residential premises.
Studying the data more closely, it is anticipated that electrical energy use in Swedish sports facilities can be reduced even further. Knowing, for example, the types of light sources and fixtures in each building allows calculations of what can be achieved by replacing them with more efficient systems. Such analyses have been conducted for lighting, ventilation and cooling systems, showing that the energy use in sports facilities could be 35 percent lower than today.
