Her job at ÅF – improving, simplifying and enhancing the user experience.
She prefers creative environments surrounded by committed people, and helping others is what motivates her most. Meet Linn, a designer at ÅF.
Linn is a graduate engineer in product and process development, with significant focus on design. Today she works as a consultant at ÅF, based at Epiroc Industrial Design Competence Center. Epiroc is a newly formed company within the Atlas Copco-group, and Linn is working on the visual identity of the new company.
“It is a huge project that covers everything from branding labels to large mining machinery. Among other things, I’ve been involved in producing the design for the company's packaging system.”
A job that makes a difference
Working as a designer is not just about making nice things. Working as a designer is about helping others, improving, simplifying and enhancing the user experience. And that’s what motivates Linn most of all.
“A designer can, for example, simplify a user interface in order to reduce the cognitive stress. Here, what the user does is the focus. A well-designed interface helps the user to focus and solve the task quickly and simply. This leads to more satisfied users/clients and greater profitability. Not to mention the resultant added value from a work environment perspective.”
This is what design is all about for Linn, developing things based on the needs of the user.
“Design creates an added value much greater than what can simply be measured.”
“I prefer creative environments surrounded by committed colleagues”
In addition to her desire to help others, being in an environment every day that breathes creativity is something that motivates her in her work.
“I prefer creative environments surrounded by committed colleagues, and that’s exactly what it’s like where I work today. The entire design centre breathes creativity, new thinking and innovative solutions. There is 3D equipment, VR equipment and, not least, inspiring co-workers!”
