Catarina Öberg

I started working for ÅF in June 2015. The past three years I worked as lead engineer of tie-in equipment for subsea projects in the oil and gas industry. I have 15 years’ experience of product development in the automotive industry and I was given the opportunity to return to an interesting assignment in the automotive field.

How come you are so interested in your specific field of work?

The car industry is exciting and changing fast. Being involved in developing the technologies is both challenging and rewarding. It is a fantastic feeling when you see that objectives have been met and that you have contributed to the release of the project – it makes you really proud when a new car is introduced on the market.

How has your career at ÅF developed?

This is my first assignment here, which I started in June 2015. Since ÅF is a large organisation I see a lot of potential to change careers or field of work if that is what I want in the future.

What is the best part of being a consultant?

I like that I am free to plan my own work and focus exclusively on the issues I am working on.

As a woman, how does it feel to work in a male-dominated industry?

I have always worked in a male-dominated environment so I don’t really reflect on it, but I would say that it is only positive; communication is usually open and straightforward, which I like.

What are your thoughts on Ladies’ Month?

I think it is a good initiative and hope it will attract a lot of women to this exciting line of work. All workplaces would benefit from more diverse working teams since we all have different perspectives and experiences.
