ÅF: New Managing Director for profiable ÅF-KontrollThe Board of ÅF-Kontroll AB has appointed Jörgen Backersgård to succeed Ilmar Stöckel as managing director of the company with effect from the beginning of 2002. Mr Backersgård, currently deputy MD at ÅF-Kontroll AB, is 37 years old and has a degree in mechanical engineering from Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg, Sweden. He has been working with testing and inspection since 1990.
ÅF-Kontroll was established in 1995 and, after six extremely demanding years, has succeeded in recapturing the strong position that the ÅF Group enjoyed in the Swedish testing and inspection market from 1895 right up until 1976. Between 1976 and 1994 all testing and inspection was, in principle, carried out by a single state monopoly. Today ÅF-Kontroll's operations are profitable and well established with approximately 150 employees working for the company in Sweden. Thanks to ÅF-Kontroll thousands of Swedish customers can enjoy access to better, more efficient testing and inspection services at lower prices.
Ilmar Stöckel retires from the company at the end of 2001 after 18 successful years as managing director for three major subsidiaries within the ÅF Group: ÅF-Elteknik 1983-1992, ÅF-IPK 1992-1994 and ÅF-Kontroll 1995-2001. Mr Stöckel will, however, continue to serve ÅF-Kontroll as a member of the board.
