Modifying and developing submarines

The submarine program at the Swedish Defence Administration is responsible for both modifying the Gotland class submarines, and to bring forward two new generations of submarines. ÅF is a part of the ongoing project lifetime extension of the Gotland class submarine and the production of a new generation of submarines.

ÅF got assigned to deliver competence and to be the leader in several main functions; navigation system, combat systems, communication system and sensors, both above and under surface. ÅF was also responsible for system integration.

In each main function ÅF is also defining the system and auditing reports and underlying documents from contractors. Another major task that is crossing all main functions are the work with integrated logistic support, which comprises everything from spare part handling to producing technical documentation.

There is a synergistic effect when ÅF gets a commitment in project form. It is not only a risk reduction coming to delivery, but also an opportunity to create an even greater development while the project can use ÅF great innovation by experience.
