Sörby Wind Farm

ÅF and ABEKA are building a substation for a large wind farm in Sweden.

ÅF is in charge of design, construction and commissioning of the substation for Sörby Wind Farm south of Järvsö. The wind farm consists of 37 wind turbines with commissioning scheduled for the third quarter of 2016.

ÅF’s client is ABEKA, who is in charge of delivering the substation and cable infrastructure to Kraftö AB, the end customer.

“It’s been a very exciting and important project for ABEKA, and it’s been extra rewarding to have had a very good collaboration with competent partners. Together with ÅF, we’ve delivered a first-class facility to the purchaser, and we did it ahead of schedule,” says Håkan Oscarsson, CEO of Abeka.

ÅF has carried out the work on and delivered design documentation for the electric power, steel, concrete/construction and SCADA monitoring system, along with testing, commissioning and project management of the station work.

The project’s 130kV mains connection (Ellevio) and substation voltage feed was switched on in March 2016 and the first wind turbines went into test-drive phase.

“Thanks to the excellent collaboration between ÅF and ABEKA the completion and commissioning of the substation could be realised on schedule,” says Mats Gyllklint, construction manager at Kraftö AB and coordinator for Sörby Construction Management.

The substation has a transmission capacity of 127MW, enough for about 76,000 households, and will handle transmission of renewable energy from 37 wind turbines at 3.45MW each. The transformer and other electrical equipment was supplied by ABB.
