ÅF behind the largest wind farm in Sweden
Wind farm company uses ÅF to test and explain the technical standards.
One of the largest wind farms in the world is being built in southern in Sweden, and when it's finished it's likely to create more than 200 green sector jobs.
The wind farm, in Hanöbukten outside of Karlshamn, will be run by Blekinge Offshore. One of Blekinge's first challenges was securing the necessary permits from municipalities and the environmental court. The Swedish military also opposed the project over concerns about its impact on its defence systems.
Getting the permits required in-depth investigations, which meant that Blekinge needed a company like ÅF, which has expertise in the field of sound and vibrations, and can develop solutions to demonstrate the real impact on both the immediate area and the defence systems.
ÅF's work was focused on creating a long-term, sustainable solution to manage noise and sound disturbances above, as well as below, the water's surface. It also required technical solutions to meet the requirements of the armed forces. The results of ÅF's investigations are now being used as base data in court proceedings, and if all goes according to the project plan.
