Strategic agreement cut the cost by half

A public enterprise had procured maintenance services for its vehicle fleet. A large share of the agreement consisted of the maintenance supplier’s commitment to take various operational development measures aimed at improving quality and delivery reliability.

Follow-up and evaluation are a challenge for many organizations; they take time and tie up resources. ÅF was hired to support the client with follow-up of the maintenance agreement, monitoring of deliveries and evaluation of the outcome. We analyzed data, selected relevant KPIs, performed follow-up and compiled decision data for the client’s management. The focus was on maintenance costs, lead times and repair times. The goal was to reduce lead and repair times and minimize emergency corrective maintenance.

Our efforts resulted in methods for clear follow-up and evaluation of performance against the set targets. The supplier gained momentum in its operational development and improved its processes and working methods for documentation and reporting, routines for error reporting and reserve material supply.

As a result of our work, in the span of 72 months they were able to reduce their lead time by 36 per cent, reduce repair time by 21 per cent and halve the number of hours of emergency corrective maintenance.
