ÅF makes everyday life easier for the people of Stockholm
Bypass Stockholm is Sweden’s largest infrastructure project, in which ÅF is a proud partner to the Swedish Transport Administration.
The project involves a new route for the E4 motorway west of Stockholm, linking the northern and the southern parts of the county, while easing the load of traffic on existing interlink Essingeleden and the inner city. This will significantly reduce travel times, facilitating everyday life and creating opportunities for further development in this very expansive region. Bypass Stockholm will comprise 21 kilometers in total, with 18 kilometers of tunnels. The Swedish Transport Administration started building the large tunnels and interchanges in 2015, and construction will continue for about 10 years. ÅF has won two of the four main contracts for the project and will be in charge of preparing detailed design documents for the rock tunnels, and the Akalla and Häggvik interchanges. A total of five hundred consultants from seven countries have worked on the project.
