Albyberg nature preserve

ÅF Landscape was selected to design and engineer the detail planned nature preserve. Based on the existing conditions they formulated the vision “Recreate the Valley” for the nature preserve. The vision, employing the use of excavated soil stockpiles, was to restore the natural elevations and enhance the stream’s expression and movement through the park. Along the length of the stream, a number of pools will be created with a larger pond in the northeastern corner for slowing and purification of the water with the help of vegetation.

Sustainability profile provides businesses with a nature preserve

The Municipality of Haninge is planning a new business park in the southeastern section of the municipality. The area is called Albyberg and has a distinct focus on sustainable development.

The first phase of development, Phase 1, covers an area of approx. 60 hectares, of which around 31 hectares have been earmarked for offices/businesses and the remainder will be a nature preserve.

The site was previously a forested area in which the planned nature preserve consisted of a marshy valley. In the future development, the nature preserve will serve recreational purposes but will above all take care of storm water runoff from the entire area.

The flow of water in and out of the area will be the same both before and after development. In line with the sustainability focus, there is also an ambition to handle excavated soil within the area.

Walking, bicycle and riding trail

The nature preserve has a retained natural expression that highlights and provides access to the preserve’s high biological values, among other things through a walking, bicycle and riding trail.

Along the trail, locations are created for seating and information boards about the nature preserve’s high biological values.
