The specialist disciplines have traditionally had defined areas of responsibility and drawn up their working remit with little coordination with other disciplines. Now that technological developments have made inroads into the construction industry, technical installations are increasing in scope together with stricter environmental and safety requirements.
This requires interaction between the various disciplines, systems and solutions, which cannot be satisfactorily delivered by any single discipline. Holistic comprehension and interdisciplinary competence are a prerequisite for delivering this properly.
By establishing an open and frank dialogue with the principal or client, architect and planners, users and operators, we eventually devise the best and most functional solutions. In order to implement good integrated, interdisciplinary and sustainable solutions, the principles governing such issues as technical infrastructure, choice of materials, universal styling, energy solutions etc. have to be clarified early on.
Early clarification of buildable solutions and technical infrastructure often pays off in the final phase in terms of commissioning and lower operating costs. ÅF Advansia has longstanding experience with these types of interdisciplinary processes and envisages substantial benefits from entering the project design process early on. ÅF Advansia has extensive experience in implementing large, complex projects.
3D modelling in BIM has been created as a standard project design tool for all disciplines but is still somewhat crude in our line of business. ÅF Advansia has an in-depth knowledge of BIM and, where possible, recommends implementing BIM in all phases of the building process. The use of BIM increases the degree of coordination and harmonisation between the disciplines.
