Description of project
EDL (Electricité du Laos) entrusted us with the planning and design of the second and third phases of the Nam Ngum hydro power plant, located on the Nam Ngum River about 90 km north of the capital city Vientiane. The second phase of the project yielded an installed capacity of 110 MW. The third phase increased the plant's final capacity up to 150 MW with the installation of a fifth turbine generator unit.
We carried out various studies for the client together with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and later the IDA, assisted in financing matters, evaluation of bids, selection of contractors and suppliers, as well as in negotiation and finalization of contracts. Our services included the detailed design of the structures, tendering, construction supervision, erection and commissioning, as well as training of personnel.
The same services were also rendered for the generating equipment of units 3 to 5, the hydraulic steel structures for the penstocks and spillways, the 80 kN crane, auxiliary equipment and the switchyard at the Nam Ngum power plant.
