Natural hazard events, and in particular floods which can lead to major damages in populated areas, need to be recognized in advance and measures must be taken to reduce their impact on our communities and at the same time satisfy the increasing demands of society for a healthy and secure living environment.
At ÅF we provide services related to hydraulic structures, planning and implementation of small hydro power plants and we support our clients in environmental and safety issues.
Small hydro power plants
We prepare feasibility studies with profitability calculations, carry out investigations on the environmental impact, as well as the planning and realization through to commissioning of power plants. We are specialists in fish pass and fish migration aids for hydro power plants, always maintaining an optimal balance between human requirements and those of the surrounding environment.
Hydraulics and hydrology
Our experts carry out water level and retention calculations by using advanced software; hydraulic inspections of structures - based on model tests if necessary; create hydrological studies, precipitation and runoff models; and determine watersystem runoff, with our own measuring equipment.
Flood protection / Natural hazards
For our clients we analyze flooding events, create flood and hazard maps, work out flood protection concepts, plan and implement the necessary structural measures (reservoirs, dams, property protection) and prepare any necessary contingency plans.
River engineering and water revitalization
We are your competent contact for issues related to residual water, debris and driftwood. We design, develop and implement projects for sediment retention basins, driftwood trash racks, and projects for revitalizing surface waters.
