ÅF has, in conjunction with White Architects, won one of the main contracts for the Swedish Transport Administration's "West Link" (Västlänken) project.
The assignment "Korsvägen - Railway station" will run over a three-year period and ÅF will support the Swedish Transport Administration with competence in the technical fields of geotechnology, rock engineering, civil construction, hydrogeology, environmental impact assessments and structural engineering.
The West Link Project is a planned 8-kilometre long railway tunnel under central Gothenburg. In addition to a new Central Station, two new stations will also be built. The main purpose of the project is to facilitate travel in Gothenburg and West Sweden. When completed, the link will permit an increase in capacity for commuter rail traffic, improve accessibility to the city and reduce the vulnerability of the rail system as a whole.
