The Swedish National Rail Administration has appointed the ÅF Group as consulting engineers responsible for electrical engineering, signalling and telecommunication systems in conjunction with the so called "City Line" rail project in Stockholm. Work on this extensive assignment will begin in December 2003.
The City Line project is a double-track rail tunnel between Tomteboda in the centre of Stockholm and commuter stations on the south side of the city. The 6-kilometre long tunnel is being built to expand rail traffic capacity on the southern approach to Stockholm. Construction work is expected to take five and a half years.
The ÅF Group has been carrying out infrastructure projects for the Swedish National Rail Administration since the early 1990s.
