The winner of a major competition regarding the new Natural History Museum of Denmark has recently been revealed. The winning tema is Lundgaard and Tranberg Architects, architects Claus Pryds and Steen Høyer and consulting engineers EKJ.

ÅF Lighting is sub consultants to EKJ regarding lighting and day-light in the new museum.

The Natural History Museum is one of the oldest and largest collections (approximately 14 million objects) of its kind in the world. For many years the collections, the collection based research and exhibitions has been scattered throughout Copenhagen. But in 2017 everything will be gathered in the new museum situated in and under the Botanical Garden in the central part of Copenhagen.

The architectural idea is to locate the main part of the museum underground so the botanical garden will stay intact. A giant glass hall will be the main feature for by passers displaying the large collection of whale skeletons. When it comes to lighting this architectural solution will require an extensive use of daylight and well planned indoor lighting to create the best possible experience for visitors and users. ÅF Lighting is looking forward to start working on the project and has great expectations as regards the future cooperation on the winning team.
