ÅF Group carries out extensive feasibility study for natural gas in Central Sweden

Nr26/2001 1(1)

Together with sub-consultants J&W, the ÅF Group will be responsible for the feasibility study in four out of a total of nine counties: Stockholm, Uppsala, Gävleborg and Dalarna. The grid within these four counties comprises approximately 475 km of pipeline, which will be the focus of work prior to the application for a distributor's licence in accordance with the Swedish Natural Gas Law. The project includes pipeline routing studies, consultation with the relevant authorities and land-owners, geotechnical surveys and assessments, GIS analyses and environmental impact assessments (EIAs).

The natural gas grid being studied is based on gas transported from the west of the country. Norwegian gas is supplied to Sweden's west coast and then piped from the Göteborg region to markets in Central Sweden and Bergslagen. Depending on the result of the negotiations which SNAB itself will be carrying out, the project may also extend to making the necessary preparations for receiving Russian gas piped into Sweden via Finland.

The project is valued at around SEK 17 million.
