Sisak CCGT Plant
The Croatian power utility Hrvatska Elektroprivreda is building a third CCGT unit. ÅF's Finnish Thermal team has been supporting this project since 2003 and it is on track for completion by late 2015.
Sisak CCGT power plant project in Croatia on-track for completion
The Croatian state-owned power utility Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP) is building a new combined cycle gas turbine plant adjacent to the existing Units A and B, located in the industrial area close to the city of Sisak, some 55 km away from the Croatian capital Zagreb.
The new Unit C will produce electricity to the national grid and process steam for district heating purposes. The maximum net electricity production from the new Unit is ca. 230 MW and the maximum process steam production 65 t/h (16 bar (a), 300 °C).
In terms of capacity, TE Sisak is the largest thermal power unit in Croatia with the installed capacity exceeding 600 MWe.
ÅF has been supporting HEP closely since 2003, first as a project developer, including the development of advanced financing and debt-refund solutions between Croatia and Russia and then during the project implementation period as an Owner's Engineer. During the implementation period a total of 66 ÅF engineers have contributed their expertise to the project.
The new CCGT Unit built to appropriate international standards and to meet the valid EU environmental requirements, will improve the natural gas utilisation efficiency considerably in comparison to the old units from 1970's.
This particular project is partly financed by an adjustment of the indebtedness related to settlements under the commodity exchange between the former USSR and the former SFRY and hence subject to challenges derived from project external sources.
