Energy cooperation at Elfa Distrelec
Elfa Distrelec is one of northern Europe’s leading distributors of electronics. Elfa Distrelec markets and distributes more than 100,000 articles from over 650 suppliers from around the world.
Elfa Distrelec has a 27,000 sq m central warehouse in the Stockholm suburb of Järfälla. Before the company entered into an energy cooperation with ÅF, they had an annual energy cost of SEK 4.6 million, which was split between 2.1 GWh of district heating, 0.6 GWh of district cooling and 2.4 GWh of electricity. In 2010, in the face of rising energy prices, the company decided to investigate where and how they could save energy.
The property comprises offices, high and low bay warehouses, a restaurant, a conference facility and parking areas. The high bay warehouse has a ceiling height of 22 meters, is served by eight fully automated robots and contains an air volume of 65,000 m3.
Over the course of a year, ÅF conducted an energy cooperation to reduce consumption of electricity and district heating/cooling. We concentrated almost exclusively on optimizing the operations of the facilities, meaning that only minor investments were required.
In year 1, the total energy consumption was reduced by 18%. The resulting savings in year 1 correspond to more than SEK 700,000, around 16% of the total energy cost.
