Conceptual Study for New Tissue Machine and DIP Line.
Van Houtum is a family-owned business that produces hygienic paper for almost 80 years. ÅF supported Van Houtum in developing their tissue machine and DIP line concept in order to explore ways to design the line as energy efficient as possible.
As Van Houtum is committed to the highest standards in terms of sustainability, the company commissioned ÅF to help assess various alternatives for the best available technology and even next-generation technology for Van Houtum’s new tissue production line. After compiling a list of applicable technologies and possible process concepts, ÅF then screened these options together with the client to determine their suitability.
The existing mill site is quite limited in space, so great care had been taken to find compact process equipment and process concepts that will fit into the premises. The first step was to look for alternative process solutions that would need fewer pieces of equipment.
Together with the client, ÅF developed a number of de-inking line concepts. Special care had to be paid to the fact that the quality specifications for the final products vary greatly. The de-inking line has been designed for exceptional flexibility in order to be able to produce different qualities of end product.
Building knowledge for the future
By using best available and next-generation technology, ÅF has helped Van Houtum to evaluate which process concepts are the most sustainable, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly based on the local conditions. The investigative work carried out in this project has greatly improved the tools and the knowledge of the kind of parameters and market conditions that are important when choosing the most sustainable solution. The new knowledge gained means that ÅF now has the capability to perform similar projects with an even higher degree of quality and accuracy in the future.
