Grorud Park nominated for the Norwegian Lighting Award
ÅF Lighting’s solution for Grorudparken (Grorud Park) has been nominated for the Norwegian Lighting Award. The park is one of four new neighbourhood parks in the Grorud valley.
The park is located in the eastern part of Oslo and has been undergoing a larger trans-formation since 2009. Link Architects together with Multiconsult are behind the renewal, whose purpose, besides creating a popular urban park for the diverse local population, is to provide storm water management, enable flood mitigation, and cleansing of runoff water as the area encloses both the river Alna and the dam Groruddammen.
Highlighting nature and creating safety
The park offers several impressive viewpoints of the valley. The main focus has therefore been to create a lighting solution which increases accessibility and enables people to enjoy the surroundings through the many footpaths in the area. This has been done by creating a functional and scenographic park lighting that makes people feel safe and secure. In addition the lighting is used as a storyteller that displays the history of the area and the fauna. Both the needs of the daily visitors as well as local wildlife have been taken into consideration in the design process.
The lighting project has been part of a larger landscape project involving many stake-holders. An interdisciplinary cooperation process has meant that the finished lighting solution is very well integrated with the general appearance of the park.
