King’s office – another world.

Social game developer KING are on a roll.

An indoor forest, with light and sound effects to mimic the seasons. An interactive floor, where the “ice” cracks when you step on it. When those kinds of features were developed for KING, of Candy Crush fame, ÅF Lighting played a pivotal role, supplying the interior designer Adolfsson & Partners with lighting expertise.

When one of KING's growing Stockholm teams needed a new workplace, interior designer Adolfsson & Partners were charged with developing a new office design concept. The interior design firm turned to ÅF Lighting, and granted us complete responsibility for the important element of lighting design.

The goal was to create an office environment that felt natural yet “stylish”. In close collaboration with interior designers Adolfsson & Partners, an international and multidisciplinary ÅF team set to work creating lighting concepts and designs to enhance and add to the architectural solutions and interior design. For instance, we produced seasonal lighting scenarios for an artificial indoor forest, complete with daylight effects and the sound of wind or birdsong. Together with the Czech company 3dsense we have also helped source advanced video projections for an interactive floor, featuring a pond where fish swim and ice cracks, depending on the season.

The overall lighting scheme provides light where it is actually needed and allows darkness to form part of the total experience. Naturally, great care has been taken to provide programmers and game designers with appropriate functional lighting. Together with Adolfsson & Partners designer we were even part of the conceptual work of designing office lighting which resulted in a custom-design luminaire, to be mounted on moveable work stations.

We are happy to say that the result is an environment which caters to productivity and provides inspiration, and we hope it will help KING create great gaming worlds for years to come!
