Drinking Water Safety

Supplying drinking water is part of the socially important infrastructure together with, for example, electricity supplies, healthcare and telecommunications. Electricity and phones are all very well, but just try to survive without water for a longer period of time.

Effective water supplies are a precondition not only for our society to function, but also for the rest of the food industry to function. Tap water is used not only for drinking water, but also for hygienic purposes, fire-fighting and industrial production.

In Sweden we are used to the water supply always working, with disruption occurring only rarely. Disruption in the water supply can be caused by chemical or microbiological pollutants, flooding, broken pipelines, power cuts, sabotage, etc.

To avoid lengthy interruptions in supplies that create major problems for society, preventive work is needed in the form of contingency planning, risk and vulnerability analyses and systematic safety work.

What do we do in the field of Drinking Water Safety?

We have extensive experience of safety and contingency planning in the area of municipal water supplies. We work on behalf of municipalities, municipal water and waste water companies, and authorities. We have also written a number of publications on subjects such as contingency planning, crisis management, risk and vulnerability analyses and drill methodology on behalf of the Swedish National Food Administration.

Examples of common assignments:

  • Risk and vulnerability analyses
  • Safety reviews
  • Contingency planning
  • Information security procedures
  • Perimeter protection procedures
  • Training
  • Drills
